Mountain State

Mountain State
Restless wheels on the interstate
Hurry home now baby don't make me wait
I miss our all-night diner days
But what's left for us now in the mountain state?
Will you take me as I am,
When I stumble and I fall?
We do the best we can.
I hear the angels voices calling me home
to your arms.
When the evening sun goes down
the barflies trickle into town.
And church let's out a little bit late.
Well, we need more than prayers in the mountain state.
Will you take me as I am,
When I stumble and I fall?
We do the best we can.
I hear the angels voices calling me home
to your arms.
If you hang around you're tempting fate.
Don't miss your chance to escape.
Yeah, you better get out. Don't hesitate.
Or you'll live and you'll die in the mountain state.
Will you take me as I am,
When I stumble and I fall?
We do the best we can.
I hear the angels voices calling me home
to your arms.

Grocery Store Flowers

Grocery Store Flowers
She had a long day
Just like yesterday
It's so hard to leave the ones you love behind
He's running late again
Straightens out the curves
He'd like to disappear for awhile
But there are too many promises to keep
And these grocery store flowers
don't make up for the hours I've been away
And I don't have super powers
sometimes love feels like a tower on a windy day
The sun sets early here.
How long can this last?
If we can we can make it through winter
we just might have a chance.
A new box of Spanish wine
and takeout on Valentine's
Is there a song in the world
that can help us shake it off tonight?
And these grocery store flowers
don't make up for the hours I've been away
And I don't have super powers
sometimes love feels like a tower on a windy day
(solo)
And these grocery store flowers
don't make up for the hours I've been away
And I don't have super powers
sometimes love feels like a tower on a windy day
And it's a long way down
Hold on and sway

Little Bird

Little Bird
Little bird, little bird
Don't fly away so fast
Little bird, little bird
Let's make our little time last
Little bird, little bird
in dreams surreal and vast
Little bird, little bird
we make our little time last
Soon you'll be out there flying
in the great blue sky on your own
Little bird, little bird
Wherever you are is my home
Soon you'll be out there flying
in the great blue sky on your own
Little bird, little bird
Wherever you are is my home
Wherever you are is my home
Wherever you are is my home

Almost Heaven

Almost Heaven
I grew up right in Parkersburg on the mighty Ohio
Where factories dumped chemicals on the future long ago
I got by in school and played by the rules, most of them anyway
But I felt I’d seen all I could see and I blindly moved away
I lived for awhile outside Carlisle and Pittsburgh, PA
Then I fell on down to Morgantown and fell for you one day
Almost Heaven feels like hell with you gone
On Friday nights the high school lights bring everyone to town
Like a Roman Colosseum, it's a rustbelt battleground
You sure looked pretty in Kansas City, Cincinatti, and Chicago
But when you left me standing in West Lafayette I let country roads take me home
Almost Heaven feels like hell with you gone
Almost Heaven feels like hell with you gone
Almost Heaven feels like hell with you gone
Almost Heaven feels like hell with you gone
I drive a heavy lift on second shift in a warehouse in Nowheresville
When I get off the bar’s still open for a couple hours still
Me and my friend Jack like to tip ‘em back and catch the west coast game
The prom queen is the bartender now and now she knows my name
Almost Heaven feels like hell with you gone
Almost Heaven feels like hell with you gone
with you gone
with you gone
with you gone…

Tell Me That We're Dreaming
Oh I don't want to let you down
so I'm giving all I can
I just want to be around
I'll always be your man
And when good news can't be found
when things don't go as planned
Take a good look around
and reach out for my hand
Tell me that we're dreaming
Tell me that we'll wake up soon
Tell me how it really ends
When I wake up next to you
Tell me that we're dreaming
Tell me that we'll wake up soon
Tell me how it really ends
When I wake up next to you

Truth Feels Like Lying

Truth Feels Like Lying
Daddy's little angel in six inch heels
trading in her wings for wheels
the tanks is full and her heart is empty
for the city lies over the hill
Out on 77 with the windows down
the car feels like it's flying
If I never come back it'll be too soon
tonight the truth feels like lying
Are you ok, my sweet baby girl?
It's a crazy world we're living in
She got a little place on a hundred and fourteenth
above the all-night laundromat
She's waiting tables seven days a week
at night she plays and they pass they hat
She met Akron Betty and Cleveland Slim
and all them Youngstown boys
They put a band together to rock the Flats
where they don't mind the noise
Are you ok, my sweet baby girl?
It's a crazy world we're living in
Are you ok, my sweet baby girl?
It's a crazy world we're living in
Are you ok? Are you ok?

Mean To Me

|

Mean To Me
Headed south down a dark road
Deaf leading the blind to the next show
Now I can see what you mean to me
Chasing the dreams in the small hours
Tune the AM station's healing powers
Now I can see what you mean to me
what you mean to me, what you mean to me
Now I can see
what you mean to me
what you mean to me, what you mean to me
Pack it up. Don't put no roots down.
Fix your brokenhearted songs in the next town
Now I can see what you mean to me
what you mean to me
what you mean to me
what you mean to me

Upstate

|

Upstate
Headed upstate for a long long while
to walk off another crooked mile
A forced getaway to a six by eight cell
A paid vacation in a state of hell
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
The bank took my farm so I took it back
for my kids in Appalachia
I didn't hurt nobody, didn't pull no gun
But they're too big to fail and I'm on the run
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
No, I'm not sorry for what I did
and I ain't gonna tell you where the money's hid
When you see Mama tell her I'm doing fine
They can lock up a man but not his mind
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey

Someday
03:41
|
|||
Someday
We've been holed up in this place
going on three hundred days
It's a long dark winter
but if we stay together
we might find our way to spring
Someday, someday,
Some day will come
Drawing lines we can't erase
Telling lies to our face
They divide to conquer
But if we come together
we'll be in a better place
Someday, someday,
Some day will come
Some day, some day,
Someday will come
Someday, someday,
Some day will come
Some day, some day,
Someday will come

Summer Days

Summer Days
Tonight we'll fly away, love
if you want to
And make a home where we can stay, love
if you want to
We'll write the book every day my, love
if you want to
and paint the town when winter's gray, love
if you want to
Summer days slip away
Autumn evenings never last
Winterlong melts away
And Spring will come again at last
Come along I know the way, love
if you want to
We'll stand in light from worlds away, love
if you want to
Turn darkest nights into days, my love
if you want to
And keep me in your heart always, my love
if you want to
if you want to
if you want to
if you want to
